Paul Salvini is the Chief Executive Officer of the Accelerator Centre, a leading technology incubator located in the University of Waterloo’s David Johnston Research and Technology Park. He is also Waterloo’s Associate Vice-President, Research Commercialization. Formerly Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Christie Digital Systems Canada Inc. and CTO at Side Effects Software, Paul has led award-winning teams of engineers and software developers in bringing to market advanced visualization, simulation and display technologies.
Paul is a graduate of the University of Waterloo (BMath) and the University of Toronto (MASc, PhD, MBA). He completed his master's degree and PhD in traffic engineering. After graduating from the University of Waterloo, he joined Canadian Pacific Railway in 1992. From 1994 to 1996 he worked as an assistant programming supervisor at Metro Toronto Transportation and presided over key enhancements to the city's traffic-signal system. Soon after, he joined Side Effects. In 2008, he was named a recipient of the "Top 40 Under 40" award that honors outstanding leaders who are shaping Canada’s future.
Paul currently holds appointments as Adjunct Professor of Engineering and KMDI Senior Research Fellow at the University of Toronto. He is also President of the University of Waterloo Alumni Council. He serves on a number of boards relating to digital media research in the areas of graphics, information visualization, and 3D film innovation.
